Italian Church Plant Update from Gavino Fioretti

Rev Gavino Fioretti, who was latterly minister of Leith Free Church, has shared news of his new role, working in a church plant an hour north of Milan in his home country of Italy.
Gavino, alongside his wife Elisabetta and their four children, moved from Scotland to Italy over the summer, to help support a fledging church plant in Northern Italy. The group had been praying for an ‘indigenous’ convert to help preach and share the Gospel in the local area.
Based in Sesto Calende, near Milan airport, the congregation has seen encouraging growth.  Gavino reports, “Counting the children and the missionaries we are about 46 people in the Italian Church and about 30 in the International fellowship. There is a very warm atmosphere and although there are difficulties there is brotherly love among the people here.”
The church in Sesto is a very encouraging reality, and Gavino has also had opportunities to preach and speak at other events.  He was invited to speak at a national conference on the topic of ‘Gender’, where he was asked to defend the Bible from the accusation that it is against women, especially in the lives of the patriarchs.
Gavino has also been preaching at other local churches, and is keen for the chance to share his own experience of biblical training with others: “I cannot stress enough the need in Italy for biblical knowledge and to be training converts up to preach the Gospel.”
The Free Church Mission Board have promised to match-fund donations up to £7,500-a-year over a three-year period to support Gavino’s work in Italy, and would encourage its members to prayerfully support this church plant in an area of great spiritual need.
Gavino is grateful for the chance to be working in his homeland: “I would like to thank the Mission Board for your support giving me the possibility to serve God in my country.”
Please continue to pray for Gavino, Elisabetta and their four children as they adjust to life in Italy, in particular for any language barriers that may arise.
