Three newly licensed ministers are set to be ordained and inducted to congregations in the Western Isles this month. The dates for the events were agreed at a meeting of the Western Isles Presbytery and are as follows:
Friday 11 August – Rev. David Macdonald as Assistant Minister of Back Free Church
Tuesday 15 August – Rev. Paul Murray as pastor of the Kinloch congregation
Wednesday 30 August – Rev. Mark Macleod as the new minister at Leverburgh, Harris.
The minister of the South Uist and Benbecula congregation, Rev. Neil Lachie Macdonald, has accepted a call from the congregation of Lochbroom and Coigach which has been vacant since Rev. Alasdair Macleod was appointed as pastor of Smithton Free Church in Inverness. The formal procedure took place at a meeting of the Western Isles Presbytery when Rev. John H Maclean the Clerk of Skye and Wester Ross Presbytery along with Mr Martin Cunningham from the Ullapool based congregation presented the call. Rev. Calum M. Smith and Mr John Macaulay represented the South Uist congregation. After considering the matter, the Presbytery agreed with the request from Lochbroom and Coigach and it is expected that Rev. Lachie’s induction will take place in September.
