Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Free Church of Scotland’s General Assembly will look rather different this year. Usually held in St Columba’s Free Church at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the Assembly will meet online to conduct limited business and urgent matters on the evening of Monday 18th May.
The pared-back Assembly will be available to view here at 6 PM: https://freechurch.org/online-services/live.
Reports from various Boards are available to view here: https://freechurch.org/resources/assembly-reports
The majority of business which was to be discussed at the General Assembly will now be suspended until a further planned meeting of the 2020 General Assembly in October when it is hoped a relaxation of some lockdown measures will have taken place.
Each year a new Moderator is installed to lead and conduct the proceedings of the General Assembly. With limited business being conducted, and to fully allow the new Moderator to carry out his duties in a full calendar of Assembly business, it is expected that a delay on the new appointment will be put in place until a formal service appointment can be conducted. Rev. Donnie G. Macdonald, Moderator of the 2019 General Assembly, will continue in his current role.
2021 General Assembly
The dates for the 2021 General Assembly will be released once a clearer picture can be established from future Government guidelines.
